The Problem: An Child Unfriendly Hazardous Garden

Our Leicestershire-based clients desired a garden that was more practical to use, easier to maintain and most importantly child-friendly. They wanted to be able to sit comfortably outside and watch their children playing in a safe environment. With limited time to spend on garden chores, they wanted something that looked good but didn’t need much upkeep.

Our Solution

The uneven ground was hazardous to their young children. A new natural lawn raises the level slightly and creates a safe, flat plain to play on.

Patio spaces crafted from easy to care for sandstone paving connects the different elements of the garden together. Creating a spot for adults to relax close to the house and a secondary area nearby the new children’s play zone. Child-friendly bark chip provides the surfacing for the play zone. This future proof material means as the children age the area can be utilised for another purpose.

To complete the simple design, the introduction of a low maintenance planting scheme brings scent, colour and all-year-round interest to the garden. And a subtle lighting scheme illuminates the whole outdoor space.
