We’re More Than Gardens

Here at The Garden Design Co., we’re committed to supporting our local community wherever we can, including sponsorships, school gardens, memorials and organised events.

Here’s just some of the ways we’ve given back…

Christmas Party for The Lonely

We care for our community.

As a company we are renowned for helping design and build new gardens all over our county, allowing friends and family to come together and enjoy our beautiful landscape.

Sadly, not everyone has the privilege of spending quality time with their family.

The latest statistics show there are over 13,000 pensioners — in Leicestershire alone — who are lonely all of the time (including Christmas and holidays).

With the help of our team here at The Garden Design Co., we pledged to make a solid change in this situation.

Starting back in 2018, we have hosted an annual Christmas party for at least 50 people in the local area. Complete with a Christmas buffet, games, a raffle, and live music. Everything is included at this event — it’s simply a way for us to give back to our community.

It might not be big but it’s huge to those who typically spend Christmas alone. And no one leaves without a present for under the tree on Christmas morning.

The VS Memorial Garden

You don’t need to be a part of the football community to have heard about the tragedy that took place on the night of 27th October 2018.

After a drawing match between Leicester City and West Ham, a fatal helicopter accident occurred moments after taking off from the King Power Stadium, claiming the lives of Leicester City’s Club Chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, staff members Kaveporn Punpare and Nusara Suknamai, and pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Lechowicz.

For months after the tragic accident, the concrete carpark where the helicopter rested had been left untouched to preserve the site. Fast approaching the first-year anniversary of the tragic accident, King Power Stadium commissioned The Garden Design Co. to design and build a public and accessible memorial garden to remember those who lost their lives.

We began the design process on the 17th September 2019 which only gave us about three weeks to complete the build of the garden. With the commitment of 30 team members, our suppliers and many long days and weeks, on the 25th October, we had completed all building, lighting, water installation and planting of the garden and it was ready for public opening. The memorial ceremony successfully commenced on the 27th October 2019.

The garden was designed to protect the site and create a permanent tribute. Encompassing all that Khun Vichai loved and was inspired by his residential garden in North London. An English country planting style was a significant part of the garden design along with playful animal topiary to capture his spirited sense of humour.

This place of peace continues to offer ongoing recognition and reflection for the mourning families, the club and the Leicester community.

Our BALI National award recognises the quality design and build of The Vichai Srivaddhanaprbha Memorial Garden which can be found just off the main car park at King Power Stadium.
